Story

On February 15, 2012, at 40 weeks and two days we gave birth to a healthy baby boy.  Gage weighed 7lbs 11oz and was perfect.  We brought him home the next day and were all immediately in love.  His three older brothers couldn’t get enough of him and wanted to hold him 24/7.  Three days later we experienced what would be one of the worst days of our lives.  Gage died unexpectedly during the night and all they could tell us was that it was a classic SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) case.  We held our precious baby wrapped in a rough white sheet in the hospital’s ER for four hours before the medical examiners office arrived to take him away.  I am grateful for these last moments but the whole experience was quite traumatic.  I made the decision to see Gage one last time before he was laid to rest.  I’ll never forget walking into the funeral home and seeing my little baby in his casket.  He was dressed in a gown/hat that I had picked out and swaddled in a matching blanket.  At his feet was a handmade baby blanket, from where it came I will never know.  He looked so peaceful and I am grateful that this is the last image I will have of my precious little boy.
I hope to be able to turn such a horrible experience into something positive.  I want to help other families that experience the same tragedy.  God’s Angels Gone Early is a non-profit organization that we started in memory of our son Gage.  Our goal is to provide hospitals with packages that can be given to families who lose a baby.  I am grateful for many items that I received after losing Gage and want to give back.  I hope that these items will provide comfort to families who experience the unimaginable.
